The US has responded to India’s decision not to participate in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, emphasizing the role of sports in fostering global connections. Vedant Patel, Deputy Spokesperson for the US Department of State, highlighted that sports diplomacy helps bridge divides and promote cultural understanding. His statement came after India cited security concerns for not sending its cricket team to Pakistan.

Patel also condemned the recent bombing in Quetta, pledging continued support for Pakistan in combating terrorism and extremism. The ICC’s schedule for the Champions Trophy was delayed due to uncertainty over India’s participation.

India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan, communicated to the ICC on November 9, has raised concerns from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which sought clarification on the decision. Notably, India has not played in Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup due to ongoing political tensions.
