The United Nations’ top humanitarian official has warned the Security Council of potential “gravest international crimes” unfolding in Gaza amid continued Israeli airstrikes. Israel dismissed concerns over the worsening humanitarian crisis, rejecting famine warnings in Gaza as “dishonest” and “slanderous.”
The U.S. has reported that Israel is not obstructing humanitarian aid to Gaza, as a 30-day deadline to boost aid deliveries passed without triggering a cut in American weapons funding. Israeli military actions have resulted in the deaths of 64 people in Gaza and an additional 28 in Lebanon in recent days.
Since the onset of hostilities on October 7, 2023, at least 43,665 Palestinians have been reported killed, with 103,076 injured, while the initial attacks by Hamas led to the deaths of 1,139 individuals in Israel and the capture of over 200 people. In Lebanon, 3,287 people have reportedly lost their lives, with 14,222 wounded in ongoing Israeli strikes.
