UK Faces Snow, Rain Alerts as Severe Cold Spell Persists
Strong north-westerly winds have triggered a noticeable temperature drop in recent days. As a result, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has announced a cold weather alert for large parts of England until Friday evening, warning that elderly and vulnerable individuals may face increased health risks.
Eastern Scotland is expected to experience the coldest weather, with temperatures potentially falling to -9°C. Sub-zero conditions are also forecast across central and northern England, north Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Rain advancing from the southwest will gradually move into Wales and western England, turning into sleet and snow as it collides with colder air. Many areas could see 2–5cm of snowfall, while higher elevations may receive up to 15cm, leading to possible transport delays and power supply disruptions.
Southern England remains under a high flood risk, with additional heavy rain predicted in the coming days. Following one of the wettest starts to the year on record, saturated soil and rising river levels have already prompted dozens of flood warnings across affected regions.
