UK Court Blocks Palestine Action Ban

The UK High Court has declared the government’s move to label activist group Palestine Action as a terrorist organization last summer unlawful. This decision is seen as a significant victory for civil liberties advocates.

Human rights campaigners had argued that the ban was an overreach of government authority, potentially criminalizing legitimate political activism and setting a dangerous precedent for anti-terror laws targeting protest groups.

Huda Ammori, co-founder of Palestine Action, led the legal challenge against the Home Secretary’s decision. The court ruled that the ban, imposed by then Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, was disproportionate.

However, Judge Victoria Sharp confirmed that the ban will remain in effect while the government pursues its appeal. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced that the government intends to appeal the ruling.
