Tehran, Iran – Former U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that a ceasefire between Israel and Iran is “now in effect” after a series of deadly overnight airstrikes by Israel Defense Forces (IDF) targeting key Iranian military and nuclear assets.

Among the casualties, Iranian state media confirmed the death of Mohammad Reza Seddighi Saber, a top nuclear scientist allegedly involved in Iran’s nuclear weapons program. The strikes took place in northern Tehran, with Press TV reporting Saber’s “assassination” during the latest round of targeted attacks.

The IDF’s military campaign, which began nearly two weeks ago, has reportedly eliminated multiple high-ranking figures within Iran’s nuclear and defense programs. According to the Council on Foreign Relations, at least 10 Iranian nuclear scientists have been killed, including Fereydoon Abbasi, the former head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, and Amir Hossein Feqhi, the organization’s former deputy.

Seddighi Saber, recently sanctioned by the U.S. State Department and Treasury, was head of a division within SPND—Iran’s Organization for Defense Innovation and Research. This group is believed to be responsible for explosive research and testing related to nuclear weapons development.

On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed the IDF’s success in neutralizing another high-level Iranian nuclear figure, although Saber was not directly named in the official statement.

“In the past 24 hours, the IDF has struck major regime targets in central Tehran, eliminated hundreds of Basij paramilitary operatives, and assassinated a senior nuclear scientist,” the statement read.
