ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has revealed a historic partnership with China, collaborating on the Chang’e-8 lunar mission set for 2028. This marks Pakistan’s first venture into lunar exploration, aiming to push forward cutting-edge research on the Moon.
As part of this mission, SUPARCO will contribute a 35-kilogram lunar rover tailored to study the Moon’s south pole. Scheduled to land in 2028, the Pakistani rover will bolster surface analysis and exploration as an integral part of this joint effort with China.
Earlier, on May 3, Pakistan also launched the iCube Qamar CubeSat aboard China’s Chang’e-6 mission from Hainan. The satellite entered lunar orbit on May 8. CubeSats like iCube Qamar are compact, modular satellites that support scientific, educational, and technological pursuits in space, contributing to areas such as Earth observation, atmospheric studies, and remote sensing.
