Track cycling and boxing are among the Sports Events Announced for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, as revealed recently. A streamlined program featuring 10 sports has been announced, which also includes athletics and swimming as mandatory events. However, badminton and hockey will not be part of the lineup for this year’s Games. The Sports Events Announced for the 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place at four venues from July 23 to August 2, 2026.
The event is expected to welcome around 3,000 athletes from up to 74 Commonwealth nations and territories to compete in the 2026 Games. Notably, the Sports Events Announced for the 2026 Commonwealth Games will also include “fully integrated para-competitions” across six of the selected sports, highlighting a commitment to inclusivity.

Katie Sadleir, chief executive of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming Games, stating, “The Games promise to be a truly immersive festival of sport and celebration of culture and diversity that inspires athletes and sports—with a fan experience more accessible than ever before.” The Sports Events Announced for the 2026 Commonwealth Games aim to enhance the overall experience for both athletes and spectators.
First Minister John Swinney described the event as an exciting opportunity for the people of Scotland. He emphasized that “while Glasgow 2026 will look quite different from previous Games, we can, and we must, use this as an opportunity to work collaboratively to ensure that this new concept brings a strong and sustainable future for the Games.” The Sports Events Announced for the 2026 Commonwealth Games reflect this new vision for the future of the event.
Scottish Secretary Ian Murray called the confirmation a “great example of the UK and Scottish governments working together to deliver for Scotland,” highlighting the £2.3 million allocated by the UK government for security costs. Glasgow stepped in to host the Games after the Australian state of Victoria withdrew due to rising costs, making the Sports Events Announced for the 2026 Commonwealth Games an important milestone for the city.

Regarding the sports included, the CGF considered various factors such as “universality of participation and quality of competition,” along with local appeal, in making their decisions. In contrast to the previous Games held in Glasgow, which featured 17 sports, this edition will showcase 10 sports:
- Athletics and para-athletics (track and field only)
- Swimming and para-swimming
- Artistic gymnastics
- Track cycling and para-track cycling
- Netball
- Weightlifting and para-powerlifting
- Boxing
- Judo
- Bowls and para-bowls
- 3×3 basketball and 3×3 wheelchair basketball
These Sports Events Announced for the 2026 Commonwealth Games aim to create a memorable and engaging experience for athletes and fans alike.
