Forecasters predict that higher elevations in the north may experience light snowfall tonight.
However, it won’t be enough to create major travel disruptions, and no winter weather Birmingham advisories are currently in effect for the state. According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, areas in the northeast with higher elevations could see anywhere from a dusting to a quarter-inch of snow.
The weather in Birmingham and surrounding areas will remain cold, with temperatures dropping into the upper 20s or low 30s overnight. The weather service noted that the cold conditions in the north could allow for a few snowflakes.
Precipitation is expected to move out from southwest to northeast this evening, though it may persist past midnight in the northeastern parts of the state. Higher ridge tops in northeast Alabama could receive a light dusting of snow, possibly up to a quarter-inch, according to the latest weather Birmingham updates.
