PTI and the Government Begin Second Round of Dialogue Today

ISLAMABAD: The second round of dialogue between PTI and the government will commence this afternoon, according to reports from The News. The in-camera meeting between the government and PTI negotiation committees has been rescheduled from 11 am to 3:30 pm today. The committee members requested the decision to change the meeting’s timing. National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq will chair the meeting, which will take place in the Constitution Committee Room of the Parliament House. As the speaker, Ayaz Sadiq is key in facilitating and leading the ongoing negotiations between PTI and the government.

During the dialogue, PTI plans to demand the release of their prisoners and establish a judicial commission to investigate the events surrounding the May 9 and November 26 protests. These are key issues for PTI as they continue to press the government for accountability.

In light of the ongoing discussions, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur stated that PTI is prepared to launch a protest movement if the talks with the government do not yield positive results. He emphasized that PTI’s founder had authorized the leadership to engage with the government solely for the sake of the nation. The PTI and the government have yet to come to terms on critical issues, including the release of PTI’s political leaders and other party members.

The PTI leader also reiterated demands for the creation of a judicial commission to investigate the violent events of May 9 and November 26. He expressed optimism that 2025 would be a turning point for what he described as “real freedom” for the people of Pakistan. According to Gandapur, PTI’s movement would depend on public support, asserting that assistance from foreign entities was not necessary.

Meanwhile, PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui noted that the government would consult with its coalition partners regarding PTI’s charter of demands (CoD). The government is also considering seeking legal advice on the matters raised by PTI, including the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the May 9 and November 26 protests. Siddiqui emphasized that thorough preparations would be made before the government takes further steps in response to PTI’s demands.
