School Closures Across Lancashire Following Snowstorm
In the aftermath of the weekend snowstorm, school closures have been announced across Lancashire, with many schools opting to keep children at home for safety. As students return to school after Christmas, the snowstorm has disrupted the first week back, leading to widespread school closures in the region.
Schools and other educational institutions have their own protocols for handling adverse weather conditions, leaving the decision to close or remain open to each institution based on a risk assessment. The Met Office issued an amber weather warning for Lancashire overnight, and a yellow weather warning for snow and ice remains in place until 12pm on January 6. These warnings have contributed to the ongoing school closures, with many schools prioritizing the safety of students and staff.
In addition to the school closures, travel disruption is expected due to flooding caused by heavy rain and melting snow. The Met Office has warned that a combination of thawing snow and rain could result in significant river flooding in parts of Lancashire, urging residents to avoid swollen rivers and not drive through floodwater.
