Historic Snowfall Transforms Saudi Arabia’s Al-Jawf Desert into Winter Wonderland

World

In an unprecedented weather event, Saudi Arabia’s Al-Jawf region witnessed its first recorded snowfall, turning the desert’s typically sandy landscape into a surreal winter scene. This historic transformation follows recent intense rain and hailstorms, setting the stage for this rare snow spectacle.

According to reports from Khaleej Times, a low-pressure system originating from the Arabian Sea brought moist, cold air into the region. This resulted in a dramatic weather shift, with temperatures plunging unusually low and snowfall blanketing Al-Jawf’s mountainous areas. Videos and images quickly flooded social media, showcasing awe-inspiring scenes of snow covering desert dunes and rocky hills—a sight unimaginable in one of the world’s most arid regions.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) in the UAE attributes this phenomenon to the low-pressure front sweeping over Saudi Arabia and neighboring areas, triggering thunderstorms, hail, and snow in northern Saudi Arabia and parts of the UAE. This shift in climate, likely influenced by Saudi Arabia and the UAE’s well-known weather modification programs, has reshaped the desert terrain, drawing global attention to the impact of climate systems on arid landscapes.

Saudi Arabia’s meteorological department has issued warnings, advising residents to prepare for continued unusual weather, including potential thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds that may reduce visibility and disrupt travel.
