Cristiano Ronaldo has voiced his support for Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim during the club’s difficult Premier League run, while hinting at a potential future as a club owner. The Portuguese superstar made the remarks during the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, where he also received the Middle East Player of the Year award.
Ronaldo: “The Problem Is Bigger Than the Coach”
Ronaldo dismissed the idea that Amorim is solely responsible for United’s struggles, which have left the club languishing in 14th place after four losses in seven league games. Using a metaphor, he said:
“It’s like an aquarium—if the fish inside are sick, removing and fixing one won’t solve the problem. It’s much deeper than just the coach.”
Ronaldo, who scored 145 goals during his two spells at Old Trafford, believes Amorim can steer the team through their current difficulties. He praised the coach’s achievements with Sporting Lisbon, while acknowledging the unique challenges of the Premier League.
“Amorim did a fantastic job in Portugal. The Premier League is different, but I believe the storm will pass, and the sun will rise again for Manchester United,” Ronaldo added.
Ownership Dreams: “Mark My Words”
Ronaldo also teased his ambitions beyond the pitch, stating his interest in owning a football club in the future. When asked about potentially taking a stake in Manchester United, he responded:
“I’m still young with many dreams ahead, but mark my words—I will own a big club one day.”
This declaration adds intrigue to his relationship with Manchester United, a club he described as one he “still loves.”
Pressure on Amorim
Ruben Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November, acknowledged the weight of expectations.
“The manager of Manchester United is never comfortable. I understand the stakes and the reality—if we don’t win, I’m in danger,” Amorim admitted.
Despite his short tenure and limited time to implement changes, Amorim expressed confidence in his ability to turn things around.
As the new year approaches, United face mounting pressure to climb the table and restore their status in the Premier League. Both Ronaldo’s support and his cryptic remarks have added a layer of complexity to the unfolding drama at Old Trafford.
