Mobile, Internet Services Likely to Be Suspended Amid PTI Protests

Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Mobile and internet services may face disruptions in parts of Pakistan, particularly in Islamabad, Punjab, and some districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest on November 24, according to ARY News sources.

Reports suggest that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) plans to suspend mobile internet services from November 22. Firewalls might also be activated to slow down internet speeds, affecting access to social media platforms. Specific areas could experience targeted service interruptions based on the unfolding situation.

Meanwhile, authorities in Rawalpindi have enforced Section 144, banning gatherings of more than four people, citing potential unrest, extremism, and terrorism threats. The decision followed a district intelligence committee meeting chaired by Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema.

Imprisoned PTI founder Imran Khan has called for nationwide protests on November 24. However, PTI has reportedly offered to withdraw its protest if specific conditions are met, including Khan’s immediate release, dismissal of “fabricated” cases against him, and the release of other party leaders.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur emphasized that discussions regarding the protest will only take place after Imran Khan’s release.
