Peshawar’s Air Quality Plummets to ‘Hazardous’ as AQI Hits 509

Pakistan

Peshawar’s air quality has reached alarming levels, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) soaring to 509, marking it as one of the most polluted cities in the world. The thick smog, which initially enveloped cities in Punjab, has now drifted towards Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, impacting Peshawar and nearby regions.

In response to the rising pollution in Lahore, the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has ramped up efforts to combat smog. The authority has intensified the cleaning of trees and plants along green belts and roadsides, with daily washing activities taking place on major roads such as Mall Road, Jail Road, and Ferozepur Road. Similar efforts are also underway in areas like Gulberg and Model Town.

PHA Director General Muhammad Tahir Wattoo stated that the team is working tirelessly from dawn till dusk, focusing not only on tree washing but also on enhancing tree plantation as part of broader efforts to reduce pollution levels and combat the ongoing smog crisis.
