Pelosi Blames Biden for Election Loss as Democrats Point Fingers

Former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has suggested that Democrats might have performed better in the recent elections if President Joe Biden had exited the race earlier. Speaking to The New York Times, Pelosi expressed that “had the president gotten out sooner, there may have been other candidates in the race.”

Her comments are the latest in a growing chorus of blame among Democrats following their significant losses, including the potential loss of both the White House and Congress in the recent elections. Pelosi, a long-time advocate for Biden’s removal, noted that Biden’s late exit at the end of July after a lackluster debate performance against Donald Trump left Kamala Harris as his endorsed successor.

Pelosi added that if Biden had stepped aside earlier, the Democratic Party might have seen an open primary, allowing for a more competitive race with multiple candidates vying for the nomination. She argued that such a process could have strengthened Harris, although she acknowledged that “we live with what happened.”

As Biden’s campaign ended, he quickly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, who went on to lose to President-elect Donald Trump. Some aides close to Harris also placed blame on Biden, saying he should have dropped out earlier to give Harris a better shot. A source close to the Biden campaign, however, dismissed those claims, questioning how the campaign spent over a billion dollars and still lost.

Other Democratic figures, including Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman and New York Congressman Tom Suozzi, pointed to various factors contributing to the defeat, including infighting within the party and issues like political correctness, campus protests, and attacks on traditional values.

Additionally, New York Congressman Ritchie Torres blamed the far left for alienating key demographics, while Independent Senator Bernie Sanders criticized the party for abandoning working-class voters, arguing that the Democratic leadership’s defense of the status quo contributed to the defeat.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison, however, rejected Sanders’ accusations, calling them “straight up BS” on social media.
