Palestine: A Year of Unprecedented Violence and Genocide

Religion

The conflict between Israel and Palestine in Gaza has seen extreme destruction over the past year, marking one of the deadliest events in recent history. October 7, 2024, marks the first anniversary of the aggression that began in Gaza and spread across Palestinian territories. This brutal conflict has been called a genocide by many, with the international community criticized for its lack of action. According to international law, Palestinians are defending their right to exist, yet the portrayal of Israel as the victim continues.

The world has watched as Israel’s actions, backed by the U.S. and other Western nations, have led to massive loss of life and displacement. For decades, Palestinians have faced attacks, including assassinations, violations of sovereignty, and relentless violence, resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths and millions displaced.

In Gaza, the situation is dire as Israel’s destruction continues, forcing Palestinians to resist in the face of what could be a second Nakba (the 1948 displacement of Palestinians). The past year has seen some of the most horrific war crimes, with over 41,000 people killed, 96,000 injured, and 10,000 missing.

Despite the overwhelming destruction, Palestinians continue to resist and return to their homes, which are often targeted again by Israeli forces. The blockade on Gaza has been in place since 2007, and Israel has carried out multiple military operations over the years, killing thousands and leaving countless families devastated.

In addition to the ongoing violence, Palestinians have faced harsh living conditions, including lack of access to clean water, medical care, and basic necessities. Hospitals and schools have been destroyed, and mass displacement has left millions without proper shelter. Infectious diseases are spreading rapidly due to overcrowding and poor sanitation, putting even more lives at risk.

The world is calling for an immediate ceasefire to end the suffering in Gaza and allow aid to reach those in desperate need. Without urgent action, the humanitarian crisis will continue to worsen.
