Pakistan World

In a major milestone for international mobility, Pakistan has announced an expansion in the number of countries recognizing its International Driving License (IDL). As of now, Pakistanis can legally drive in 132 countries with a Pakistani-issued IDL, up from a previous total of around 80 countries. This new agreement was made possible through diplomatic efforts by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with enhanced collaboration with international road safety organizations.

The updated IDL is part of Pakistan’s initiative to simplify international travel for its citizens and enhance its global presence. Valid for a period of one to three years, the IDL provides Pakistani drivers with the flexibility to drive rented or personal vehicles in countries across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and parts of Asia and Africa.

What Is Pakistan’s IDL?
The IDL is an official document that translates a driver’s local license information into several languages, making it easier for authorities in foreign countries to verify a driver’s identity and credentials. Pakistani citizens can apply for an IDL through authorized centers across the country by submitting proof of a valid Pakistani driving license, a passport-sized photo, and identification documents.

Key Countries That Now Accept Pakistan’s IDL
The list of new countries includes popular travel destinations such as Japan, South Korea, Brazil, and Italy, as well as several key trade destinations across Southeast Asia and Africa. Here’s a glimpse of some of the 132 countries that recognize Pakistan’s IDL:

Europe: France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands
Americas: United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil
Asia: Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, UAE
Africa: South Africa, Kenya, Egypt, Nigeria
Benefits for Pakistani Travelers
With this expanded access, Pakistanis who work, study, or travel abroad will have increased convenience, especially for short stays or frequent travelers. The move is also expected to support Pakistan’s tourism industry, as visitors can now rent vehicles and explore the country more freely with international licenses that have reciprocal recognition.

How to Apply for an IDL in Pakistan
Pakistani citizens can apply for an IDL through the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) or their local traffic licensing office. The process typically involves:

Completing an application form.
Submitting a valid CNIC and Pakistani driving license.
Providing two passport-sized photos.
Paying a nominal fee.

This initiative reinforces Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating travel, encouraging international tourism, and expanding global mobility for its citizens. As the world becomes increasingly connected, such developments enhance Pakistan’s standing on the international stage.
