A recent missile strike by Russian forces has devastated a civilian container ship at a port in Ukraine’s Odesa region, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals, local officials reported.
Oleh Kiper, the regional governor, condemned the attack, noting, “This marks the third assault on a civilian vessel within just four days.” He indicated that Russian forces have specifically targeted port infrastructure and all confirmed fatalities are Ukrainian nationals. Additionally, several individuals sustained injuries, with one port employee succumbing to his wounds in the hospital on Thursday.
This attack comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky embarks on a European tour, engaging with leaders in London, Paris, and Rome, amidst rising tensions and ongoing hostilities in the region. The strike underscores the precarious situation in Ukraine’s Black Sea ports, vital for both commercial and humanitarian operations.
