Microsoft users alerted to potential cyber threats: Hackers may exploit vulnerabilities to steal data

ISLAMABAD: Microsoft users alerted to cyber threats targeting their accounts and login credentials, with sensitive information at risk, according to a report by The News on Saturday.

An advisory issued by the National Cyber Emergency Response Team, under the Cabinet Division, has warned that cyber attacks are targeting networks through Microsoft Windows systems. Microsoft users were alerted to the possibility of hackers exploiting vulnerabilities to gain unauthorized access to networks and confidential data.

The advisory explained that hackers could gain access without opening any file, while Microsoft has yet to release an official solution. Microsoft users alerted about the severity of this threat, which affects all Windows versions from Windows 7 to 11 and Windows Server 2022.

The advisory also stressed that unauthorised access to login passwords and networks could result in complete control of entire systems. To counter these risks, Microsoft users alerted to implement dual security systems and strengthen their networks. The advisory recommended protecting specific information with firewalls and virtual local area networks.

Additionally, the team urged Microsoft users alerted to avoid opening suspicious files from USBs, email attachments, or shared folders to prevent potential breaches.
