Shaun Murphy Narrowly Misses 147 in Masters Victory Over Robertson

Shaun Murphy came close to achieving a 147 break during his 6-2 victory over Neil Robertson, securing his spot in the Masters semi-finals at Alexandra Palace. Robertson, a two-time Masters champion, faced tough competition as Murphy’s sharp form saw him take control of the match early on.

Murphy appeared poised for a maximum break in the pivotal eighth frame but misjudged a crucial shot after potting the black to reach 120. He accidentally snookered himself on the yellow, leaving fans and commentators disappointed yet impressed with his performance. Reflecting on the moment, Murphy shared, “I couldn’t breathe! I thought this was my chance to achieve a max in one of the Triple Crown events, but anywhere but there.”

Murphy, who won the Masters in 2015 by defeating Robertson in the final, described his game as “somewhere near my best.” He displayed breaks of 90, 67, and 66 en route to building a commanding 4-1 lead. Robertson responded with a brilliant 108 break in the sixth frame, but Murphy finished strong with an 82 and his almost-maximum in the final moments.

Robertson Reflects on Murphy’s Game
Neil Robertson praised Murphy’s stellar form, stating, “I thought both of us looked fantastic out there. It’s often the smallest margins that determine the winner, and today, it was Shaun’s day.” Robertson also commented on Murphy’s missed 147 attempt, saying, “It was such a bad shot, considering how great he is with the rest. It’s unfortunate, as it would’ve been amazing for everyone watching.”

The Masters continues to deliver thrilling moments, with Friday’s quarter-finals featuring Judd Trump taking on Ding Junhui in the afternoon session, followed by a clash between world champion Kyren Wilson and Luca Brecel.
