At least 42 people were killed and 20 others injured when gunmen targeted a convoy of Shiite Muslims in Pakistan‘s Kurram district on Thursday. The attack, one of the deadliest in the region recently, occurred as the vehicles were traveling from Parachinar to Peshawar. Among the dead were six women, with several others in critical condition.
No group claimed responsibility for the shooting, which lasted about 40 minutes. The attack comes amid ongoing sectarian violence between Shiites and Sunnis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Local leaders have criticized the lack of security for the convoy, despite prior threats to Shiite communities.
Authorities, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, condemned the attack and vowed to bring those responsible to justice. Protests followed, with locals demanding better protection and justice for the victims.
