Pakistan Railways is preparing to launch a new high-speed express train connecting Karachi and Lahore, offering modern amenities and an improved travel experience, according to a statement from the Ministry of Railways.

This service, inspired by the Green-Line Express operating between Islamabad and Karachi, is expected to begin by the end of January. Officials stated that teams are actively working on the project, focusing on delivering state-of-the-art passenger coaches.

To reduce reliance on imports, the department plans to enhance its domestic production capabilities, utilizing innovative technologies to construct high-quality coaches locally. Efforts are also underway to improve meal quality and ensure a cleaner, more comfortable environment for passengers.

The Green-Line Express, launched in 2015, connects major stops like Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Hyderabad, taking approximately 20 hours from Islamabad to Karachi. This train offers Economy Class, AC, and AC parlour options, along with a modern dining car.

In line with broader modernization goals, Pakistan Railways is set to introduce 80 new freight wagons and 32 passenger AC standard coaches this year. Additionally, 92 freight wagons were built at Mughalpura Workshops over the past three years, with plans for 508 more wagons and 184 passenger coaches to be completed within the next three years.
