ISLAMABAD: Islamabad International Airport has officially become Pakistan’s first completely cashless airport, introducing a modern digital payment ecosystem to improve passenger convenience, transparency, and operational efficiency.
Under the new digital system, all transactions across the airport — including airline ticketing, parking charges, restaurants, retail outlets, and duty-free shopping — are now conducted through electronic payment methods. Passengers can use mobile banking apps, QR code payments, digital wallets, as well as debit and credit cards, eliminating the need for physical cash.
Airport authorities stated that this move is part of a broader strategy to modernize infrastructure, enhance service standards, and align with global aviation trends. The cashless initiative is expected to reduce transaction time, improve security, and provide a smoother travel experience.

Chief Operating Officer and Airport Manager Aftab Gilani revealed that a dedicated mobile application has also been introduced. The app enables travelers to track lost or delayed baggage from anywhere in the world, significantly improving customer service and accountability.
He further explained that the integration of cashless payments and smart tracking systems will boost passenger satisfaction while strengthening the airport’s international reputation and operational ranking.
Senior Joint Director Commercial Malik Amjad described the transformation as a major milestone in Pakistan’s journey toward digital modernization, stating that Islamabad Airport is setting new benchmarks for service quality and technological adoption.
This development follows the federal government’s decision to include Islamabad International Airport in its active privatisation programme. Earlier, the Ministry of Privatisation had announced similar plans for Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport and Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport, aiming to enhance efficiency, attract investment, and modernize aviation infrastructure nationwide.
The shift to a fully cashless model positions Islamabad International Airport as a pioneer in Pakistan’s digital aviation transformation, offering faster, safer, and smarter services for travelers.
