LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has been granted bail in four separate cases related to the May 9 violence by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore. The ruling was made after the court heard the bail petitions filed by the former prime minister.
Judge Arshad Javed presided over the proceedings, where Imran Khan’s legal team presented their case. The Prosecutor General of Punjab, Farhad Ali, opposed the bail, arguing that Imran Khan had incited his supporters to attack important state buildings if he were arrested.
In a related development, Imran Khan filed a plea with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the transfer of the May 9 cases to military courts. The petition, filed through his lawyer Aziz Karamat Bhandari, named several key officials and the federal government as respondents, urging the court to block the transfer of the cases to military trials.
Meanwhile, in a separate ruling, the ATC acquitted all 18 accused, including PTI workers, involved in the May 9 riots due to a lack of substantial evidence. This marks a significant legal development for both Imran Khan and PTI as the cases continue to unfold.
