Bill Increase

Energy Bills Rise by £21 Annually Starting January

Europe

From January, typical energy bills will increase by £21 annually, bringing the total to £1,738 for households using an average amount of gas and electricity. Despite being 10% lower than the same period last year, prices remain significantly higher than pre-Covid levels, burdening households.

The quarterly cap set by Ofgem affects 26 million households in England, Wales, and Scotland. Experts warn high energy costs are the “new normal,” forcing many to ration usage or incur debts, with £3.7bn owed to suppliers collectively.

Citizens Advice has called for better support as families and vulnerable groups face “impossible choices” to cope with sustained high costs.
