Costa Rica has received an invitation to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade bloc, opening the door to expanded trade with 12 member nations, including Japan, Australia, and Vietnam.

The country’s foreign trade ministry highlighted the potential for preferential market access to countries with which it currently lacks trade agreements. Costa Rica applied to join the TPP in August 2022, aiming to strengthen its global trade ties. The invitation marks a significant step, though final membership depends on further evaluation and market access negotiations.

The TPP members collectively represent 15% of global GDP, making it one of the most influential trade alliances worldwide.
