ISLAMABAD: Amid escalating violence, the Pakistan Army has been deployed in Islamabad under Article 245 of the Constitution to assist civil authorities in restoring order. The decision follows a series of attacks on law enforcement agencies, resulting in tragic casualties.
Security sources confirmed that authorities have been directed to take firm action against anarchists and miscreants, including shoot-on-sight orders for those posing a threat. Measures are also in place to counter potential terrorist activities.
In a devastating incident, miscreants rammed a vehicle into Rangers personnel on Srinagar Highway, martyring four officials and leaving five others, including Rangers and police personnel, critically injured. Two police officers have also been martyred in separate attacks, with over 100 police personnel injured since the PTI launched its protest march.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi warned of imposing a curfew or taking extreme measures if violence escalates. He urged protesters to shift to the designated Sangjani area, emphasizing the government’s resolve to maintain order at all costs.
Key Legal Context:
Article 245 authorizes the federal government to deploy armed forces to defend against external threats and support civil power. The law restricts courts from challenging such directives, ensuring swift action during emergencies.
