Sectarian clashes in Pakistan’s Kurram district have claimed 130 lives over the past 10 days, with 14 fatalities and 27 injuries reported in the last 24 hours. This violence, centered near the Afghan border, highlights ongoing tensions between Sunni and Shia communities.

The unrest began on November 21, when gunmen attacked Shia pilgrims, killing 52 people, including women and children. Efforts to mediate peace, including a government-brokered ceasefire, have failed, deepening the crisis.

The conflict has disrupted daily life, with road closures causing shortages of essential goods, though authorities have restored internet and mobile services. Talks with tribal elders and increased security measures aim to restore order, but tensions remain high.

This surge in violence occurs alongside escalating nationwide unrest, with 245 deaths in November from various attacks and clashes. The crisis in Kurram is a grim reflection of Pakistan’s broader security challenges.
