Rangers Football Club has announced the appointment of Patrick Stewart as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective December 16, 2024. Stewart, who has an extensive background in football administration, joins the club after a distinguished tenure at Manchester United.
Having spent 18 years at one of the world’s most iconic football clubs, Stewart brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Rangers. He recently served as Interim CEO at Manchester United, overseeing key projects, including a significant investment transaction and the integration of new shareholders.
Stewart, originally from Aberdeen, is a graduate of the University of Glasgow. He started his career as a lawyer in Scotland before moving into sports management. In 2001, he joined TEAM Marketing, handling UEFA club competitions, before his move to Manchester United in 2006 as General Counsel and Company Secretary. Over the years, his role expanded to encompass commercial, operational, and regulatory duties.
In 2019, Stewart joined Manchester United’s board and played a pivotal role in negotiating player contracts and establishing the club’s women’s team. His influence continued to grow, and in 2022, he became an Executive Director at Manchester United’s parent company, overseeing relationships with key football governing bodies, including the FA, Premier League, and UEFA.
Rangers’ Interim Chairman, John Gilligan, expressed excitement over Stewart’s appointment, praising his reputation and vast experience in the football industry. He also confirmed that discussions were ongoing for the appointment of a new Chairperson, with an announcement expected soon.
Stewart’s extensive background in football governance and leadership positions makes him a strong addition to Rangers, as the club prepares for its next chapter under his leadership.
