Trump Appoints Linda McMahon as Education Secretary

Europe

President-elect Donald Trump has selected Linda McMahon, former CEO of WWE, as his education secretary, placing the pro-wrestling mogul in charge of a department he once proposed abolishing. McMahon, a strong advocate for parents’ rights and universal school choice, will focus on expanding educational opportunities nationwide, particularly in underserved areas.

In a statement, Trump highlighted McMahon’s work as chair of the America First Policy Institute, where she fought for school choice reforms in 12 states. He praised her dedication to providing high-quality education for children regardless of their background.

McMahon, who served as head of the Small Business Administration during Trump’s first term, had been considered for the commerce secretary role but was instead appointed to lead the Education Department. She previously chaired the pro-Trump group America First Action and played a key role in the 2020 campaign transition team. Despite Trump’s campaign promise to abolish the department, this appointment signals a continued focus on reshaping U.S. education policy under his administration.
