Pakistan Job Alert

A recent report titled Economic Impact Report: Agay Barho: Empowering Pakistan’s Digital Economy reveals that Google facilitated 864,600 jobs in Pakistan in 2023 by helping businesses expand through Google Search, Google Ads, Google AdSense, Google Cloud, and YouTube—a 111% increase compared to 2020. With Google Ads enabling businesses to reach new audiences, companies are hiring more staff to meet customer demands, boosting job creation.

Additionally, Android contributed to 100,400 jobs (+3% from 2022) within Pakistan’s app development ecosystem, supporting developers at every stage of creating, marketing, and monetizing their apps. This growth has also fueled demand for support roles in marketing, finance, and freelance services, ranging from translators to graphic designers. Workers using digital tools, especially Google’s, are generally more digitally adept and hold roles in high-value fields like digital marketing and cloud computing, positively impacting the economy.

Google actively supports the digital upskilling of Pakistani talent. The recent Google AI Essentials course, open to learners from any background, provides essential AI skills through hands-on examples led by Google AI experts. The Google Career Certificates (GCC) program offers nine in-demand courses in fields such as business intelligence and e-commerce. In 2023, Google awarded 44,500 GCC scholarships, with half going to women, and plans to offer an equal number in 2024. Over 80% of GCC graduates in Pakistan reported career improvements within six months of completing the program.

The app industry is also thriving, with 65 Pakistan-developed apps from 24 developers ranked among the global top 10 on the Play Store and App Store. In 2022, Pakistan’s app market grew to 4 billion downloads, marking it as the world’s fastest-growing app market. E-commerce is rising as well, with 57% national and 48% rural internet penetration enabling Pakistani businesses to expand internationally. Studies show that businesses using online platforms are about five times more likely to export than others.

Google continues to support Pakistani talent through eight Google Developer Groups and 82 Developer Student Clubs, which hosted events and training sessions in 2023, benefiting over 100,000 developers nationwide.
