Punjab Imposes 30-Day Drone Ban

Pakistan Asia Home World

Punjab government has enforced an immediate province-wide ban on outdoor drone operations, citing serious concerns related to public safety, security, and law and order.

According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department on Wednesday, the unregulated use of drones poses potential risks to public order, disrupts official operations, and may create security challenges. The move aims to safeguard people, public installations, and sensitive buildings from any untoward incident.

The ban has been imposed under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, granting authorities the power to restrict activities that may threaten peace, safety, and property. Officials emphasized that the measure is necessary to ensure public security, peace, and stability across the province.

However, the restriction does not apply to small drones used indoors, such as for coverage inside halls, banquet venues, or marquees. In such cases, the responsibility for safe operation will lie entirely with the event organizers.

Law enforcement and intelligence agencies have been exempted from the ban. The restriction will remain effective for 30 days from the date of issuance, unless withdrawn earlier by the authorities.
