RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan was shifted from Adiala Jail to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad, on Tuesday for a scheduled medical follow-up related to his right-eye treatment.

This marked his second hospital visit for the ongoing treatment after an earlier consultation held on January 24 and 25, during which doctors advised a series of three anti-VEGF injections. According to medical officials, the third and final dose is planned for March 23.

Imran Khan was transported to the hospital under strict security arrangements and remained there for nearly one hour. Along with the eye procedure, doctors also carried out cardiac evaluations, including echocardiography and ECG tests, both of which indicated normal heart function, hospital authorities confirmed.

Before administering the injection, a panel of senior specialists conducted a detailed clinical examination. The medical team included consultant ophthalmologists, a vitreoretinal surgeon, and cardiology experts from both PIMS and Shifa International Hospital.

Following medical clearance and informed consent, Imran Khan was given the second dose of an intravitreal anti-VEGF injection inside a fully equipped operation theatre, adhering to standard medical protocols and safety procedures.

The treatment was conducted as a day-care procedure, allowing the PTI founder to return to Adiala Jail the same day. Hospital officials reported that his vital signs remained stable throughout the procedure and recovery phase.

PTI Chairman Confirms Medical Procedure

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan confirmed that Imran Khan underwent the scheduled eye treatment at PIMS. Speaking to Geo News, he said the party was informed after the medical process was completed.

Gohar emphasized that the PTI continues to demand that future medical evaluations be conducted in the presence of Imran Khan’s personal doctors to ensure transparency and trust. He also reiterated calls for his transfer to Shifa International Hospital for advanced medical care.

Supreme Court Medical Report

Imran Khan’s health has remained a major political issue after a medical report submitted to the Supreme Court revealed he suffers from Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) — a serious eye condition that can cause severe vision loss.

According to the report, the former prime minister has lost nearly 85% of vision in his right eye. CRVO is often linked with cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, and heart disease.

Imran Khan, 73, has remained in custody since August 2023, facing multiple legal cases which he and PTI describe as politically motivated.
