A tragic mass shooting at a high school in British Columbia, Canada, has resulted in at least 10 fatalities, including the suspected attacker, according to Canadian police officials.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) confirmed that six victims were found dead inside Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, located in a small northern town. Another victim passed away while being transported to a hospital. In addition, two more bodies were discovered at a nearby residence, which investigators believe is connected to the school attack.

Authorities stated that the incident involved an active shooter inside the school, and the suspect was later found deceased, reportedly due to a self-inflicted injury. Police have not yet confirmed the ages of the victims.

Two injured individuals were airlifted to hospital in critical condition, while nearly 25 others were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local medical facility.

All students and staff members were safely evacuated following the incident. RCMP Northern District Commander Ken Floyd said investigators had identified a female suspect, but no further personal details were released due to privacy laws and the ongoing investigation.

A Grade 12 student, Darian Quist, shared that students barricaded classroom doors using tables for over two hours during the lockdown. He described the event as shocking and difficult to process, adding that the school community is deeply affected by the tragedy.

The RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate the incident.
