The Government of Punjab has officially announced public holidays in February to mark national observances across the province.

According to the notification, February 5 (Wednesday) will be observed as a public holiday on account of Kashmir Solidarity Day. All government offices, educational institutions, and most private organizations across Punjab will remain closed on this day.

Kashmir Solidarity Day is observed every year to express support for the people of Indian-occupied Kashmir and to reaffirm Pakistan’s stance on the Kashmir issue. Rallies, seminars, and special programs are expected to be held throughout the province.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Sunday announced a long weekend for the province, declaring February 6 as a Basant holiday.

In a post on X, she said that residents of Punjab will enjoy an extended break with Kashmir Solidarity Day on February 5, followed by the provincial Basant holiday on February 6, and then Saturday and Sunday. She expressed hope that people across the province would use the time to relax, refresh, and enjoy the festive break.

The kite-flying festival had been banned in Punjab in 2007 due to a rise in fatalities and serious injuries caused by hazardous kite strings—especially affecting motorcyclists and pillion riders—as well as incidents of celebratory gunfire.

However, after 18 years, the Punjab government has decided to lift the ban under strict regulations. As a result, a three-day Basant festival is set to begin in Lahore from February 6, marking the revival of the historic cultural event.
